McCutcheon Lady Mavericks Soccer 2017 Season Preview

This season, we have a young group of girls who are itching to show-off their Varsity skills. Our coaching staff remains with Branko Isailovic leading Varsity, Jarrod Boe with Junior Varsity, and Taylor Butcher (former Mav) as the Goalkeeping Specialist. Lastly, we have a new addition, Lindsey Bryant who will work closely assisting Branko and the defense.

The team is young this year but not without talent. As they lost a large senior class, the new senior class of four is stepping up with strong leadership and dedication throughout the field. Our current Varsity roster (including floaters) features 4 seniors, 8 juniors, 9 sophomores, and 2 freshman. Our captains this season will be senior Madi Stewart and juniors Megan and Audrey Walker. Madi rules the back of the field. She leads by example as well as having an incredible understanding for the game. Megan and Audrey are young but strong examples of what it is to be a Mav. They have every player's interest in mind. While Megan is a silent leader, Audrey has shown leadership by working through her injury and showing how to be a leader off the field. In the net, we have a healthy fight for the starting position between sophomore Autumn Hogue and junior Abby Alvarez. Both bring a lot to the table. As for now, they will be splitting time each game. As we work up the field, we see captain, Madi Stewart, guiding the back line. Sophomore Meg Merryman continues to impress as she earned herself a starting spot on the back line last year as a freshman. Sophomore Halle Neibert has also really stepped up her game to join our back line as well. The midfield will be led by senior Jacinda Chapman. Jacinda is incredibly dedicated and vocal. She understand the game and helps guide the players around her. We are excited to see how sophomore Kendra Brewer adjusts to the Varsity level. Kendra is aggressive, strong, and motivated. Kendra has put in extra work this summer and gives 110% every second of practice and with a help from senior Emma Crosby we are looking to to control and possess the ball more. Couple of players we are excited about in the midfield are juniors, Riley Nicol and Kassidy Crowe. They had a great summer. Both have a great speed to run the outside as well as the technical skills to play in the center. Riley and Kassidy are a dangerous combination through the middle. We have worked hard this summer to work combinations in order to get the ball in the back of the net. At the top of the field, senior Hannah Andrews and junior Ashleigh Sincebaugh have been working to improve their accuracy. While we have a young team, we have high expectations and will see results.

Our Junior Varsity squad is just as promising as the Varsity team. As girls have worked their hardest all summer, it has been difficult establishing teams. We have many younger girls who have proved themselves to be Varsity material and may find themselves with minutes on both fields. We are expecting big things from the freshman class with players such as Kaleigh Sheumann and Elise Hertling who are consistently playing at Varsity speed in practices and scrimmages. Kaleigh has the ball skills and understanding to be on the Varsity squad full-time by the end of the season at this rate. Elise has a drive to score goals. As she develops her skills, she is going to be a dangerous player. It is bound to be a great season for the whole team, and we are anticipating big wins.
