The Mavs (4-6) used multiple big innings to propel them to victory Thursday night on the north side of Indianapolis. The scoring started in the top of second when Zayne Newgent drove in Rhett Clarkson and Blake Morrison with a single to centerfield. After Brennan Johnson was hit by a pitch, Newgent scored on a wild pitch. A Jake Winger double to right center brought home courtesy runner Braxton Leon to cap the scoring in the inning. Holding a 7-6 lead, the Mavs pushed across three more in the top of the sixth. Johnson led off the inning with another hit by pitch, Deacon Anthrop walked before Winger drove in Leon again with a single up the middle. A well executed double steal scored Anthrop before Jonathan Riley finished the scoring with a single to left that brought home Winger. Winger finished the night with three hits and two RBI while Newgent had two hits and three RBI. Mav pitching struck out fourteen hitters on the night. Clarkson picked up the win after striking out six in three and one third innings of one run relief. Aiden Riser picked up the save after retiring the final two outs. The Mavs return home for a Friday night battle with the Danville Warriors. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Mav Baseball Complex.
